What to expect
New Roof Installations in Worcester — Done Properly
A new roof is one of the most significant investments you will make in your home. Done well, it will last 40, 50, or even 80 years depending on the materials. Done badly, it will be a source of problems within a decade. The difference usually comes down to what happens before the first tile goes on.
We strip every roof back to bare timber. That is not the quickest approach, but it is the right one. It means we can see the actual condition of the structure — the rafters, purlins, ridge board and any areas of historic damp damage — before anything new goes over the top. If there is a problem underneath, you want to know about it now, not in five years' time when it starts to show through the new covering.
We cover all roof types across Worcestershire — natural slate, artificial slate, clay plain tiles, concrete interlocking tiles, and all the lead detailing that goes with them. We work on Victorian terraces in Worcester city centre, large Edwardian detacheds in Malvern, post-war housing in Droitwich and modern builds across Bromsgrove and Redditch. The approach is always the same: thorough preparation, quality materials, careful installation.

When to replace
Signs Your Roof Needs Replacing, Not Just Repairing
Most roofs can be repaired rather than replaced — and that is always our first recommendation when it makes sense. But there comes a point where continuing to patch an ageing roof becomes false economy. These are the signs that a full replacement is the wiser investment.
How we work
Our New Roof Installation Process
We follow the same six-stage process on every installation. No shortcuts, no cutting corners when the weather turns awkward or the job takes longer than expected.
01
Full strip to the rafters
We remove everything — tiles, battens, underlay — right down to the bare timber. This gives us a clear picture of the structural condition before anything new goes on.
02
Structural inspection & repairs
We check every rafter, purlin and ridge board. Any timber that has softened, warped or been damaged by damp gets replaced before the new roof goes on. There is no point in a new covering over a compromised structure.
03
Breathable membrane & new battens
A modern breathable underlay goes on first, followed by treated timber battens at the correct gauge for the chosen tile or slate. This is the foundation everything else sits on.
04
Tile or slate installation
We fix every course carefully, maintaining consistent margins and checking alignment as we go. Ridge tiles, hip tiles and valleys are all detailed properly — not rushed at the end.
05
Lead detailing & finishing work
All flashings, valleys, abutments and penetrations are dressed in lead or finished with appropriate materials. This is where a lot of cheaper installs cut corners — we do not.
06
Site cleanup & final check
All waste, old materials and packaging are removed from your property. We do a final walkround with you before we leave so you can see exactly what has been done.
Materials guide
Choosing the Right Roofing Material for Your Property
Worcestershire has a wide mix of property ages and styles — from Victorian terraces to 1970s estates to modern new builds. The right material depends on your roof pitch, planning constraints, budget and how long you intend to stay in the property. Here is a plain guide.
Natural Slate
Advantages: Exceptional lifespan (80–100+ years), authentic look for period homes, low maintenance once fitted
Considerations: Higher material cost, requires careful matching on repairs
Artificial Slate
Advantages: Lower cost than natural, consistent appearance, suitable for most pitches
Considerations: Shorter lifespan than natural, not always appropriate for listed buildings
Concrete Interlocking Tiles
Advantages: Excellent value, widely available, good colour range
Considerations: Heavier than slate, colours can fade over decades
Clay Plain Tiles
Advantages: Authentic appearance for period and conservation properties, long lifespan
Considerations: Higher cost than concrete, requires adequate roof pitch
Why New Roofs in Worcester Are a Long-Term Investment
A well-installed roof does more than keep the rain out. It improves your home's thermal performance, reduces the risk of damp and structural timber damage, and protects everything inside — your insulation, your ceilings, your electrics. Done once, properly, it is a 40 to 80 year asset depending on the material you choose.
We have been installing new roofs across Worcester and Worcestershire for over 30 years. That means we have seen what works, what fails prematurely, and what lasts. That experience informs every decision we make — from how we detail the lead at the chimney to the batten gauge we specify for the tile weight.

Questions answered
New Roof FAQs — Answered Honestly
How long does a new roof installation take?+
For a standard semi-detached or terraced house, allow 3 to 5 working days. Larger detached properties, or those with complex rooflines (hips, dormers, multiple chimneys), can take 7 to 10 days. We will give you a realistic schedule when we quote and stick to it.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof?+
In most cases, no. Like-for-like replacements on standard residential properties are covered under permitted development. Exceptions apply to listed buildings, conservation areas, and changes that significantly alter the roof profile. We will flag anything relevant when we assess the property.
Do you handle the scaffolding?+
Yes. We arrange scaffolding as part of the project cost — it is factored into your quote. You will not need to source it yourself or deal with a separate contractor. We manage the full process from first day to last.
Can you match the tiles to my existing property?+
We will do our best to source a close match, particularly on extensions or partial replacements where consistency matters. On a full replacement, you have more freedom to choose a complementary profile. We will show you options and give our recommendation before anything is ordered.
Is a new roof covered by building regulations?+
Replacing a roof on a like-for-like basis is generally exempt from building regulations. However, if we are changing the structure, improving thermal performance, or working on a new extension roof, building regulations may apply. We will advise you clearly from the outset.
What guarantee do you provide on a new roof?+
Every new roof installation comes with a full written workmanship guarantee. The length varies depending on the scope of work — we will confirm this in your quote documentation. Materials are sourced from reputable manufacturers and carry their own product warranties.
