Fascias, Soffits & Roofline in Worcester — Low Maintenance, Long Life

Most homeowners do not think about their fascias and soffits until the paint starts peeling or the guttering starts to pull away from the wall. But the roofline — the boards at the eaves and gable ends of your property — plays an important role in protecting the structural timber of your roof from the weather and preventing unwanted access to the roof space.

Timber fascias and soffits, once common on all UK housing, have a finite service life. They need regular painting to stay watertight. When that maintenance is skipped, the timber rots, the guttering fixings fail, and gaps open up at the eaves. UPVC replacements have become the standard choice because they are permanent, maintenance-free, and genuinely improve the appearance of the property.

We replace fascias, soffits and barge boards across Worcester and Worcestershire, along with guttering at the same time if needed. We do not rush roofline work — the boards are the fixing point for your guttering and the seal against the elements at the eaves, and they need to be properly bedded and finished.

What's included

Roofline Components We Replace

Fascia Boards

The horizontal board running along the lower edge of the roof, directly behind the guttering. On timber properties, this board rots over time — especially at the ends where water collects. UPVC fascias replace the timber permanently and require no ongoing painting or maintenance.

Soffit Boards

The underside of the roof overhang, visible when you look up at the eaves. Timber soffits rot and split, allowing birds and rodents into the roof space. UPVC soffits can be ventilated (with built-in slots) to maintain airflow to the roof space, reducing condensation.

Barge Boards

The angled boards at the gable end of a roof, framing the roof edge from below. Like fascias, they are exposed to constant weathering and rot progressively. Replacing them in UPVC ensures the gable end is protected and smart indefinitely.

UPVC Cladding

For external walls on gable ends or porch faces, UPVC cladding provides a clean, maintenance-free finish. Popular for updating the appearance of 1970s and 80s properties where timber cladding has deteriorated.

Questions answered

Fascias & Soffits FAQs

Do I need to replace fascias and soffits at the same time as guttering?+

Not always, but it is usually worth coordinating. If the fascia is rotten, the guttering attached to it will not be secure regardless of its condition. If you are replacing the fascia, having the guttering done at the same time saves a second visit, scaffolding cost, and potential damage from re-fixing guttering to a freshly installed board.

Can UPVC fascias be fitted over existing timber?+

Sometimes, yes — if the existing timber is sound and flat. Capping over sound timber with UPVC can be a cost-effective option. Where the timber is rotten or warped, it needs to be removed first. We assess the existing condition and advise on the most appropriate approach during the survey.

How long does a fascia and soffit replacement take?+

For a typical semi-detached or terraced house, a full roofline replacement (fascias, soffits, and guttering) usually takes 1–2 days. Larger detached properties or those with complex rooflines may take 2–3 days. You will not have a prolonged disruption.

Do ventilated soffits matter?+

Yes, particularly on older properties. The roof space needs a supply of fresh air to prevent condensation building up on the underside of the roof covering and timbers. Ventilated soffit panels with built-in slots allow air movement without creating open gaps. On modern properties, the requirement is usually met by a continuous ventilated strip. We will check what your roof space needs and specify accordingly.

Are there colour options for UPVC fascias?+

Yes. Beyond standard white, UPVC roofline products are available in a range of woodgrain finishes, anthracite grey, black and cream. These have become increasingly popular as an alternative to white on more traditional or higher-value properties. We carry sample boards and can show you options during the survey.

Is scaffolding needed for fascia and soffit replacement?+

For a full roofline replacement on a two-storey property, yes — scaffolding or a tower is required to work safely at eaves level. On single-storey work or extensions, a ladder or hop-up may be sufficient. Access costs are included in your quote.
